NL: The end of Fair Flowers Fair Plants

The Board of Directors of the Fair Flowers Fair Plants foundation has concluded that there are no substantial future possibilities and that the participants' financial contributions are too small to develop Fair Flowers Fair Plants into a mainstream brand. Therefore, the board has decided to withdraw the label from the market after the year 2017 and to cancel the foundation at the end of this year.

That was announced by the board in a press release. In February, the board already revealed that it was looking into the options for the future of the consumer label. In recent months discussions were held with companies and organizations that are active in the flower industry or represent companies and stakeholders. Among them were many participants in the Fair Flowers Fair Plants label.

The overall view is that the label does not stand out enough and almost disappears among a large number of floral brands and labels. Florists and their organizations would like to do more with the label if a wider assortment would be available. A large part of the growers are disappointed with the lack of demand from the market.

During this year, all participants may continue to use the label. Fees will not be charged to the participants for the year 2017.
