"NL: "Good auction prices in run-up to Mother's Day"

Busy times for transporters, exporters and growers, who are shipping out large volumes in a short period of time. It's almost Mother's Day (May 14), and it is very clear that the positive trend of the recent past is continuing.

"Thousands of beautiful products and a full stand @FloraHolland @Rijnsburg", Anneke Groothuis reports on Twitter

Tulip prices
The past week, prices of tulips yielded very good prices, reports BloembollenVisie. "The tulip supply on the clocks has fallen steadily over the last few weeks. The demand has remained steady in these weeks and prices have risen sharply because of the shortage. The wholesale trade still has, also because of the cool weather, a demand for tulips. In particular the heavy segment, yellow, white and light pink, did very well."

Based on Royal FloraHolland's figures, as we approach Mother's Day, the prices have risen. In week 17, about 20.3 million flowers of A1 quality came before the clock, with an average price of 15.1 cents. A week later, this quantity dropped to 14.3 million, while the average price rose to 16.7 cents. A similar rise was observed at auction company Veiling Rhein-Maas. Based on a still high demand combined with the continuing decrease in supply, the trend is expected to continue this week.

Hydrangeas
At hydrangea nursery Sjaak van Schie in Maasdijk, the breeder reports that this week a record of 250,000 hydrangeas were sent to garden centers and florists in the Netherlands and abroad. In a press release, the breeder reports a 30% increase compared with the year before, and especially pink and two-colored hydrangeas sold quickly.
