US (FL): Knox Medical looking to expand

Knox Medical, which is building a medical-marijuana dispensary in Orlando and grows products at a Winter Garden nursery, plans to open a dispensary in Gainesville.

Located about a mile from University of Florida’s campus, the Gainesville site is sandwiched between stores for Kohl’s and Goodwill.

Knox said its Orlando dispensary, 1901 N. Orange Ave., in Ivanhoe Village, should be opening in a matter of weeks without announcing a date yet. The company is led by founders Jose J. Hidalgo, CEO, and Bruce Knox, COO.

The Knox family has been running a conventional nursery for flowers and shrubs in Winter Garden for generations. The conventional nursery employs about 120 people.

Knox told the Sentinel in December that he expects his marijuana business to eventually employ 100 people.
