Sheridan Nurseries again named one of Canada's Greenest Employers

Sheridan Nurseries has been recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers, for the second year in a row.

“Receiving the Canada’s Greenest Employers award for the second year in a row is a great honour. This award is a result of the dedication and commitment by our entire team to achieve our environmental goals. As a company founded on landscapes and plants, our standards of excellence for everything ‘green’ echos our company values for over 100 years," Karl. E. Stensson, CEO & President at Sheridan Nurseries says.

According to the judges: "Sheridan Nurseries is a good example of an organization that is tackling the impacts of its operations directly through its large pot recycling program -- the program includes the goal of ensuring the return and reuse of 50 percent of the larger pots sold (in 2015 this number was 25 percent) -- the company also takes back all smaller pots for recycling since many municipal programs do not accept these containers.

"Noting its "green-thumb" line of business, Sheridan Nurseries is uniquely positioned to offer educational programs to the wider community including the "Growing-up Green" school outreach program, which makes donations from products sold to local schools for the purchase of plantings to help "green" school yards.

"Sheridan Nurseries manages a massive water recapture pond to collect rainwater and water run-off from its operations -- covering an area of 1.4 hectares, the 117 million litre pond naturally filters water through a series of settling ponds and reduced the company's water draw from local sources by approximately 24 percent."
