"One of Mother Nature’s most clever designs"
The teamwork of the individual stems is one of Mother Nature’s most clever designs. Every stem forms the base of a new shoot. Ronald: “I can’t cut a stem until the young branch is sturdy enough to grow on its own.” The greenhouse is filled with dark green leaves with their typical Swiss cheese pattern.
Daylight
“The peak of our production is between March and October as the plants naturally benefit from extra daylight and mild temperatures.” says Ronald. The young shoots and stems grow on mature plants, which gives a wonderful network of roots, greens and wood. Ronald: “I think it looks more like a tropical mess but it is the perfect base for growing beautiful, large foliage.”
Added value
“After cutting, the leaves need time to harden. Once they’ve hardened, they can be used for anything. Especially the bigger leaves will hold for at least 14 days.” according to the grower. FleuraMetz buyer Christian Winkel agrees: “You see them everywhere nowadays, especially in hand tieds. They really boost the look of bouquets.” The leaves are sprayed before they are wrapped. “It prevents dust from settling and increases the sturdiness of the foliage making them a lot less vulnerable to damage during transit.” says the grower.
Specific orders
The two men are very pleased about the Preferred Supplier status. Christian: “It’s a strong, high quality product and thanks to their efficient logistics, it has become very easy for me to place last minute orders. The relationship between me and Ronald is very good, whenever I need something specific, he can accommodate me.” Ronald in turn is very happy with the transparency between them. “We know what works for the other person. This product requires structure and regularity otherwise it will have a negative effect on quality. I don’t do mass production, it’s not something I aspire to do. FleuraMetz understands this.”
