Preparing different product groups at the auction
Handling a large range of products
“In addition to the daily products such as Roses, Gypsophila and Dianthus, niche products are also delivered and prepared for sale at the Import Handling department”, explains Angela Neubauer, head of Import Handling and Service Centre.
"The broad assortment that Veiling Rhein-Maas offers to its customers entails a variety of challenges for the Import Handling department. For example, while Heliconia, Musa and Strelitzia are not refrigerated, the cold chain for peonies must not be interrupted. Cynara are freshly cut again after they are delivered and then auctioned in a bucket with 6 to 10 stems. There are also clear differences when it comes to providing water to the plants. Iris, tulips, narcissus and amaryllis are prepared without water, gladiolas with just a little water and calendulas with lots of water. Allium and Zantedeschia are prepared with the aid of packing material that prevents the stems from wobbling during the product presentation at the clock. We take extra care with Ozothamnus in particular, since the plants are very branched.”
Besides the above-mentioned cut flowers, the Import Handling department also prepares Oxypetalum, Craspedia, Leucospermum, Cotinus, Veronica, Delphinium, Antirrhinum, Achillea, Carthamus, Celosia, Freesia and much more.
