Ernst de Haas, Van der Eng:

"Easy control of legal cultivation possible"

Illegal copying of protected work is a serious problem in the floral industry. Last week breeders told Chinese executives about the problems due to illegal copies of Dutch plant varieties. According to Ernst de Haas, CEO at Van der Eng, these problems not only concern the breeding industry.

"The illegal copying is on a much larger scale than many people think. As a manufacturer of labels and tags for horticulture, we are asked almost every week for solutions to counteract proliferation of plant varieties without license fees", says Ernst.

One of the solutions to this problem can consist of a plug ring that is laid around the plug when the plant is potted. "When the plant is growing the plug ring will stay around the stem. Various features and encodings can be printed on this ring. This makes easy control of legal cultivation possible."

Last year the company presented labels with an embossing in it as well.

Peter du Crocq and Jeffrey Daalhuizen, VanDerEng, showed labels with an embossing last year.
