Mats Boots, Brilliant Dutch:

Gold tulip bulb is 24-carat idea

"The tulip market needs to be renewed, and with this new tulip concept we are walking a new path." This was said by Mats Boots (Brilliant Dutch), who presented a new gift item to the market at the end of last year, together with his brother Dave: the painted tulip bulb. Now the consumer can purchase it in countless places, there are various new ideas in line and activities around the corner, and there is interest from all corners of the earth. Time for an update.

Painted bulbs
A number of bulbs in the shape of a heart are poked on thin plastic pens. The bulbs are deep red (red flower) and gold (yellow flower), because they are painted, but can also have other colours. On the condition that the colour of the tulip corresponds with the colour of the paint, all kinds of 'paintings' can be created. The really special part is in the paint. As Mats explained before, it has to be breathable, waterproof and sustainable. It took a year, but it is now bearing fruit.

Fun
This is apparent from the interest that the brothers have received from all corners of the world. They say people with interest have come from Brazil, Poland, China, Japan and Germany. A collaboration with Bakker.com has also been established, and the first orders have been sold in England. The red and gold hearts do well there, says Mats.

"The hearts are also sold on the Waterlooplein in Amsterdam. This is great promotion, with all those tourists. And speaking of promotion: this year the Keukenhof has chosen the theme 'Romance'. We signed up of course and hope we can work together: there could be no better promotion of the tulip love heart!"

New ideas
And there's no time for Mats to rest on his laurels. "Next year, the 2018/2019 season, we will expand with water cultivation of daffodils and hyacinths, also in the heart trays, in flag shapes and in round trays. This will be another new adventure: the product grows and blooms differently and sets different demands for the paint."
