NL: Schiphol and growers welcome travellers with anthuriums

Thousands of returning holiday makers were welcomed home with a bunch of heart shaped anthuriums at Schiphol airport. This stunt is a Schiphol initiative in collaboration with the Dutch anthurium growers. The floral reception on the 24 and 25 August thanks the travellers for visiting the Amsterdam Airport and the sunny anthuriums allow them to extend the holiday feeling at home. On Friday August 25 a record amount of 80,000 holiday makers returned to Schiphol.

Surprising
Anthurium ambassador Claudia Broch: “Upon arrival at home it's great to be surprised with a 'welcome home' bouquet. Specially for this stunt we put together bunches of different anthuriums in summery colours. People will be able to enjoy the long life flowers for weeks at home." Over the coming period the anthurium growers are organising more fun and surprising actions. The next will be held in both the Netherlands and Germany and is in the theme of the Hartstichting. The sales profits from (heart shaped) anthurium plants and flowers are used by the Dutch and German Hartstichting for research into curing and preventing heart and vascular disease in women.

Record
Last week the most holiday makers returned to Schiphol: Thursday 78,000 travellers and the record amount of over 80,000 on Friday. The 2017 summer holidays are over for most Dutch people and they will return to work this week. In the holiday period around 12.5 million people travelled through Schiphol, a strong increase compared to 2016.
