Industry to support Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas

AmericanHort and Ecuadorian rose farm Rosaprima are offering help to the Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas. AmericanHort urges all AmericanHort members and industry partners to consider making a financial donation and Rosaprima is donating 1 percent of their U.S. Open Market sales to the Hurricane Harvey Relief fund.

AmericanHort's efforts
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the thousands of people displaced and impacted by the flooding in the Gulf Coast. The devastation is vast and families and communities will be disrupted for many months", AmericanHort writes in a message of support on their website.

At AmericanHort, they are working with the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association and other industry partners to identify Green Industry businesses impacted by the flooding. In the coming weeks, as the extent of the damage is assessed, they hope to be able to identify specific ways we can work together to support the people and the businesses as they recover and rebuild.

In the meantime, they urge all AmericanHort members and industry partners to consider making a financial donation to a recognized relief organization with resources on the ground in the Gulf Coast. You can make a donation as small as $10 and giving is as simple as sending a text message.

Three organizations to consider are:
  • The American Red Cross accepting donations on its website. You can also text HARVEY to 90999 to donate $10.
  • The United Way of Greater Houston flood relief fund will be used to help with immediate needs as well as long-term services like minor home repair. Visit their website to donate or text UWFLOOD to 41444.
  • Donations to the Salvation Army can be made online, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769) or texting STORM to 51555.

Rosaprima's efforts
Also Ecuadorian rose farm Rosaprima is offering help to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas, where they have deep and longstanding personal and business relationships. During the month of September, they are donating 1 percent of their U.S. Open Market sales to the Hurricane Harvey Relief fund.

"Many of you will recall that last year, Ecuador was struck by an earthquake that caused massive destruction, killing hundreds and leaving thousands injured and homeless. As Rosaprima organized to contribute to the relief efforts, we were overwhelmed with the immediate and unconditional support that our customers provided, and will be forever grateful", says Ross Johnson President and CEO of Rosaprima.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, their thoughts and prayers are now focused on Texas, where they have deep and longstanding personal business relationships. "We once again stand united in solidarity to contribute towards the relief efforts to help those in need."

And in order to help those in need, Rosaprima is donating 1 percent of its U.S. Open Market sales to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, set up by the Mayor of Houston and run the Greater Houston Community Foundation. "They are on the ground close to the needs of people providing support for housing, clothing, transportation and other needs. We will also receive voluntary contributions from our employees and anyone else who would like to make a donation."
