UK: Tristram Plants staff get physical to raise money for charity

Walberton & Binsted Nurseries have always been involved in supporting local charities, but this Autumn some of their staff are pushing their physical and mental limits to support charities of their own.

On 9th September, Walberton’s Production Operations Manager, Simon Green, will embark on the monumental task of cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats. He and a team of friends plan to complete the trip in 10 days, cycling a mammoth 100 miles per day, every day. Simon is raising money for Diabetes UK to support a close friend and has a fundraising target of £1500. To incentivise family, friends and colleagues to support his cause, he has pledged to wear a Tottenham Hotspurs shirt for a full day of cycling if his target is reached. As a lifelong Arsenal supporter, Simon says this will be more painful than the cycling itself. Simon has been training in earnest for this event over recent months, so if you can, take the time to help his cause and get him in that Spurs jersey. Simon’s fundraising page.

On 10th September, Chris Cobbett, who runs Binsted Nursery’s Herb section, will be running his first ever 10k race. The Chestnut Tree House Littlehampton 10k run takes place on a fast, flat route taking in Littlehampton seafront, and Chris has been in training for 2 months to prepare for the event. Whilst the event itself is being organised to raise money for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice, Chris and his family are also fundraising separately to say a heartfelt thanks to Chestnut Tree House for the life changing support their family has received. You can read more about Chris’s cause and make a donation on Chris’s fundraising page.

Walberton’s Office Manager, Camilla Penn, also plans to run the Littlehampton 10k, but a recent training injury might make this challenging (or slow at best!). This would be Camilla’s 4th 10k race, and if ongoing training and recovery are successful, Camilla plans to run her first half marathon on 8th October. The Children on the Edge Chichester Half Marathon takes in the historic sights of Chichester and a gruelling 3.5km, 200 metre climb up Chalkpit Lane to the top of the Trundle.
