The long journey of a rose, from seedling to commercial product

At Interplant's headquarters in Harmelen, the Netherlands, rose seedlings with the best potential are being tested over two years within the company's specially designed greenhouses where they use advanced computer technology to optimize growing conditions.

After the two years, a selection of the most promising seedlings are sent out to test centers all over the world. These seedlings will be tested under different climatic conditions making sure that every new rose variety that will finally be made available to customers will meet all requirements and expectations.

Besides the necessary technical testing of possible new rose varieties Interplant also conducts many discussions with testing agents. Every piece of data and the opinions of testing agents and other market influencers will be used in deciding which new rose varieties will make the perfect match to existing or future market segments. Within the head office, all data is evaluated and a final decision will be made about which seedlings will be commercialized and for what market segment these seedlings are best suited.

This week, Interplant are visiting their appointed agent in the South-American region, Plantec S.A. working hard to discover new beauties. On behalf of Interplant, CEO Robert Ilsink is present as well as Adri van Doesum, Head of Research. At Plantec's side we see Ing. Carlos Krell and Sofia Sanchez.
