"Carex ‘Feather Falls’ is a jack of all trades"
Carex ‘Feather Falls’ was developed in Japan and is a crossing between different varieties carex, says CNB representative Marcel Salman from CNB New Plants. Its lush, green-white variegated foliage, that trails down like a waterfall, makes it quite a looker amongst its species. “This ornamental grass is primarily intended for gardens but also does well indoors. It’s a fine product for planters. Its long, trailing foliage looks stunning in hanging baskets and combines particularly well with other perennials, such as heuchera.”
A beautiful sight
‘Feather Falls’ has several great virtues, such as the ability to cope with frost in winter as well as heat in summer. Whether it’s placed in a greenhouse, has to endure severe draught, cope with high humidity… ‘Feather Falls’ withstands it all. The plants grow vigorously and the best time to trim them is spring. The elegant, curly foliage is its best feature and the reason for being a great seller, especially for garden centres. “It’s a beautiful sight.” A Jack of all trades.
Expanding the series
‘Feather Falls’ has been on the market since 2016 and proven to be a wonderful success from the beginning. Even though being protected by plant breeders’ right, this variety is widely available”, says Salman. Following the success of ‘Feather Falls’ is the introduction of Carex ‘Ribbon Falls’, a variety with dark green foliage. “Step-by-step we will be expanding this series. Other colour combinations are down the pipeline, there’s plenty to look forward to.”
