UK: Plant nursery and garden centre The Arium opened

The plants being grown in the brand new The Arium greenhouse, are sold in the company's brand new garden centre. The British company celebrated the opening of the new facilities last week.

The Arium is located in Leeds, in the North of England. The old nursery in the city is being torn down due to restructuring and housing development in the area. A good opportunity for the entrepreneurs to fit out the new garden centre more efficiently and modern. The new facilities are 19,000 m2 and have both a potted plant nursery, garden centre and a cafe. The entire construction is coordinated and lead by Luiten Greenhouses / Saarlucon.

The nursery is fitted with two large silos (300,000 litres of water) to use rainwater in the cultivation. The nursery is divided into four cultivation zones of 3,456 m2 and thanks to these different zones different plants can be grown. Two cultivation zones consist of cultivation tables with special water collection. The nursery is also fitted with a RW24 waste machine by Urbinati.

At the moment the greenhouses are full of wallflowers, violets and primulas. Herbs, vegetables and soft fruit plants will be added later. The company expects to grow millions of plants of over 500 varieties annually.

The plants grown are partially sold in their own garden centre, which is open every day. The company also found different partners through the regional initiative In Bloom. The plants from the greenhouse will end up in the parks, roundabouts and flower gardens of the city. Schools and other locations in and around the city, such as cafes, stores and playgrounds are also being decorated with them.
