NL: 170,714 bulbs for National Monument MH17

On November 24, at the National Monument MH17 in Vijfhuizen (NH), 170,714 flower bulbs were planted. The bulbs of the crop Chionodoxa will give the Monument a purple-blue glow in the spring. The number of flower bulbs refers to July 17, 2014, the date of the disaster with flight MH17 when 298 people lost their lives in Ukrainian airspace.

The flower bulbs are a donation from Dutch trade companies specializing in flower bulbs, united in iBulb, with this event they want to show their involvement with the victims and thus give the Monument an extra dimension.

The National Monument MH17 is an elevated body of earth in the shape of a huge commemorative ribbon on which 298 trees have been planted in memory of the victims. The flower bulbs were planted in the grass under these trees. To a large extent this is done mechanically. In certain places where the machines couldn't move to, volunteers united in the Friends of the Monument MH17, planted the remaining bulbs by hand.

Chionodoxa has been chosen because these bulbs are well suited for this type of soil and therefore will return for years.

iBulb is engaged in the financing and execution of promotion, technical research and making flower bulbs, bulb flowers and bulbs in a pot accessible to the market.

The National Monument MH17 was put into service on 17 July 2017 by HRH King Willem Alexander. The trees were chosen due to special qualities that can be seen or experienced in every season. At this moment the large quantities of crabapples offer a special sight.
