Stowe Beam named VP of Environmental Certification Services at SCS

Mr. Stowe Beam has been promoted to Vice President of SCS’s Environmental Certification Services division. In this role, he will oversee the operations of the division, which manages a wide range of pioneering and internationally recognized third-party certification programs and services for the green building, furniture, energy, life cycle assessment, apparel, consumer products, and mineral extraction industries. In addition, Stowe is joining the SCS Executive Team, which provides strategic oversight for the company’s broader environmental and sustainability auditing, certification and consulting services.

Stowe has been with SCS for more than a decade. Hired initially to conduct field auditing, he has advanced rapidly to assume positions of increasing leadership within the company, including program management, new technology development, and corporate business development.

“Stowe is an extremely gifted individual, capable of undertaking any task, no matter the technical difficulty, as well as providing strategic insight into the most important sustainability challenges,” said Dr. Stanley Rhodes, SCS President. “We are very fortunate to be able to tap his talents on behalf of our clients, their customers and stakeholders.”

Stowe has worked on SCS proprietary standards development, and represented SCS on several industry and governmental standards development committees and stakeholder bodies, such as the US Green Building Council’s Technical Advisory Group for Indoor Environmental Quality, the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Joint Committee, and the US EPA’s Product Category Panel establishing Guidelines for the Assessment of Environmental Performance Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Procurement.

Before joining SCS, Stowe was a field biology educator, working in a number of diverse environments, including the Coastal Southeast, Rocky Mountains, and Pacific Northwest. Stowe holds a BS in Biology, and in 2014 earned his MBA degree in Sustainability from Presidio Graduate School.

“SCS has a unique corporate culture and mission that pulls all of the elements of sustainability together under one roof: thorough dedication to a healthy environment, commitment to the ethical treatment of workers, responsibility to the broader community, and recognition of the importance of maintaining a healthy bottom line,” said Beam. “In my new role, I look forward to continuing our work to advance a wide range of groundbreaking programs and initiatives.”
