Iran: The challenge of growing flowers in Tehran

Growing roses in Tehran, Iran, can be quite challenging. The summer highest temperatures can reach over 39℃ and in winter, the weather is dry and the temperature can reach -4℃. On top of that, last winter there was a strong snowfall that visited the Tehran area, and some of the greenhouses in the area didn’t survive.

A greenhouse that got through the heavy snowfall is a 6000m2 PC sheet greenhouse for rose growing built by Chinese greenhouse builder Beijing Kingpeng Corporation. This fairly new greenhouse that was built in 2016 has harvested two seasons already.

As the differences between summer and winter temperatures are large, maintaining a steady indoor environment can become a challenge. For this reason, Kingpeng equipped the greenhouse with both a heating and cooling system. Moreover, the inside and outside shading system are also controlling the temperature and light efficiently.

The roses are planted soilless and drip irrigation is used to maximize the usage of irrigation water and keep the flower quality at the same time.
