PGR University: Focus on perennials
Part 1: Mixing and Measuring Small Amounts of PGRs and Pesticides
Lee Stivers, Extension Educator, Penn State Extension
One of the key steps in making effective applications of crop growth regulators and pesticides is measuring and mixing the product accurately. If a crop growth regulator or pesticide product is applied at a rate or concentration that is either too high or too low, the results may be disappointing-and costly! In greenhouses, we often only need to mix up a small amount of product for an application, but mixing and measuring small amounts accurately can be tricky. We will discuss best practices for measuring both liquid and dry formulations of products; how to avoid confusion over different units of measure; and demonstrate a practical approach to doing calculations for mixing and measuring small amounts.
