"US: "Red poinsettias still rule"

Christmas color trends may change, and Ultra Violet is the shade of the year, but when it comes to poinsettias — red remained the top seller for retail florists during the Christmas holiday season.

More than 90 percent of respondents to a Society of American Florists’ post-holiday survey said 21 percent or more of the poinsettias they sold were red.

Other poinsettia findings:
  • Forty-two percent said poinsettia sales were steady in the December 2017 holiday season, compared to 2016 returns. Thirty-eight percent said sales were down.
  • About 40 percent said that, when looking at five-year trends, poinsettia sales have been decreasing. Thirty percent classified those sales as flat over that time period.
  • Among those who saw a sales increase in poinsettias this year, gains were modest: 19 percent said sales increased by 1 to 5 percent.
