Receiving payments on time still a challenge in Italy

Even though Italy is said to be climbing out of the crisis slowly, receiving payments on time still seems to be a challenge. At the Myplant & Garden that was held last week it is something that several exhibitors were highlighting. Fortunately, with this exhibition that seems to boost the industry, the exhibitors were optimistic about the future.

"Payments are often delayed with several months or some have already spent their money on other things before paying us", says an Italian wholesaler. Also some breeders are encountering similar challenges. Therefore, some of them have narrowed down their client base over the last years during the crisis. "We are now only supplying the growers of whom we know that they are financially capable of paying the bills, including ours", says a breeder.

Over the last years, like many other European counties, Italy was suffering from the crisis. Fortunately, things seem to be improving - a bit slower compared to other European countries like the Netherlands or Germany, but it seems to be on its way up.

And stimulating the opportunities of economic development is one of the main goals of Myplant & Garden. Together with making known the innovations in the sector, promoting products and services, triggering the dialogue between Italy and the rest of the world and offering opportunities for technical and professional updates they aim to take the industry to the next level. And it seems they are on the right track. With their first edition held four years ago, they brought back a horticulture trade fair to Milan after 15 years and the interest of both exhibitors and visitors has been increasing year after year. Also this year many were optimistic, which created a very nice ambiance. Click here for the post report of the show.
