March 14-15 in Naaldwijk, the Netherlands

Cold weekend talk of town at Royal FloraHolland Seasonal Trade Fair

Growers are ready for spring but the Northwest European weather is not. The forecast for the coming weekend makes growers nervous and at the FloraHolland Seasonal Trade Fair in Naaldwijk, the Netherlands, it is the talk of town.

After having quite a nice weekend with double digit temperatures, a mass of very bold air from Siberia, also called the beast from the east, is returning and will again bring cold temperatures to several countries in northwest Europe.

The temperatures will drop in the weekend and this makes growers nervous. They already notice a drop in demand for their balcony and bedding plants when comparing with other years during the same period. “People will probably not think about garden plants when the temperatures are so unusually low. As a result, buyers will hold their orders”, says a exhibiting grower.

Today is the last day of the two-day fair and FloralDaily and our colleagues of the Dutch newsletter BPnieuws.nl were present to make a photo report of the show. The full photo report will be published on Monday March 19, but we will give you a preview below.

Lars van Steekelenburg of Plantal Producciones. They grow Mandeville Bella (a variety of Kientzler) Dipladenias in El Ejido in Spain.

Thomas Offer Madsen of Offer Madsen grows green plants in Denmark, Poland and Spain. They work with Danish trend agencies and ship their products to Denmark first where they will outfit them with the right ceramic pot.

Guy van Deuren of VD Plant holding the Dianthus Pink Kisses of breeder Selecta one. Together with Lavendula stoechas and mandevilla, he grows this dianthus in Tavira, Portugal.

Soren Clausen of Gaarslev produces 6cm phalaenopsis in Denmark.

At the fair 300 grower's stands are featuring houseplants, garden plants, new products and an extensive preview of the products intended for the tub plant season. The majority of the growers are Dutch, but growers from Denmark, Italy, Belgium and Spain found their way for the auction as well.
