A display full of mini plants

Mini plants are fashionable. Open Pinterest and you will be overwhelmed by the most beautiful compositions of little green plants in glass terrariums. Through (lifestyle) stores and garden centers, the mini plants are eagerly purchased by the consumer.

Offer from A to Z
Since 1985 Danish grower Lundager has specialized in the cultivation of mini green plants. In three nurseries with a total area of 4.5 hectares, more than 300 different kind of plants are cultivated. "We mainly supply green plants. From Anthurium to Zamioculcas - from A to Z ", laughs Michel Teekens.

With the large assortment and years of experience, Lundager is a well-known name in the market. "Quality is always at the top, this is our trademark. If you mention the name Lundager, the reaction is always: oh, that’s the mini plants grower."

Located in Netherlands
In October, the Danish company founded a Dutch B.V., in particular to improve the communication with customers. Michel is at the helm of the Dutch branch. Denmark continues to serve the existing market. From the Netherlands, exports are regulated to, among others, the south of Europe through the various Dutch exporters.

The establishment in the Netherlands was a good move, according to Michel. "We also have a distribution center at FloraHolland in Aalsmeer, where we serve various customers in the country. Since we started at the end of last year, we see a rising line in orders."

That success is partly fueled by the trend of the moment. "Four years ago, it started with retailers who put the mini plants in the store as a supplement to the interior. They noticed that customers liked it so much that they wanted to buy the plants too. Now you see more and more that mini plants are on offer in shops."

All-in-one concept
Lundager cleverly anticipates that trend with a new concept: a completely filled display, ready to be placed in the shop. The display is made of organic MDF and can also be printed in full-color according to the customer's wishes. "Within 3 weeks we can deliver a custom-made product to the customer." The displays are also stackable. "The dimensions are designed in such a way that four stacked displays have a maximum height for loading in a truck."

The new display has in recent months already appeared at discounters and garden centers in Portugal, France and Germany. "In total that are about 4,000 units and 240,000 plants. Also several Dutch customers have shown their interest. Nothing is definitive here yet, but it is a matter of time. Often you need a period of three years to tell whether a concept is successful. Now, after three months, we can already speak of a considerable success."
