Keukenhof about to open its doors

Tomorrow, March 22, the Keukenhof will open its doors. It is an international and independent showcase for the Dutch floricultural sector, with a special emphasis on flower bulbs; over 7 million bulbs are in bloom, with a total of 800 varieties of tulips.

Thanks to the well over 100 suppliers, 500 flower growers and 40 gardeners, the 32ha garden of the Keukenhof will this year, once again, provide a showcase for the Dutch floriculture sector.

Keukenhof’s 2018 theme is Romance in Flowers. Romance and flowers are inextricably linked after all. The flower shows will also be dedicated to romance. This year, the rose show is bigger than ever.

Historical Garden
The Historic Garden highlights 400 years of tulip cultivation in the Netherlands. The garden relates the tulip’s origins, there is a reconstruction of the Clusius garden planted with tulips that have, in some cases, been cultivated for four centuries.

Tulpomania
The tale of the tulip is truly impressive. From bulbs worth their weight in gold, theft and a mountain dweller that feels at home in the Dutch climate, to the story of the black tulip and famous people who gave their name to new varieties. All these stories are told in the Tulip mania exhibition at the Juliana Pavilion.

Flower Shows
As many as 500 growers present their prize blooms for leading flower arrangers to use in their unique shows. Not all the flowers at Keukenhof are outside: the pavilions are also packed with flowering bulbs, cut flowers and pot plants. At the Orange Nassau Pavilion there are colourful floral displays that change every week. The Willem-Alexander Pavilion shows many thousands of tulips and during the last 12 days of the season it is home to the world's largest lily show. The Beatrix Pavilion displays a mass of orchids and anthuriums for eight weeks.

The park Keukenhof is open from 22 March 2018 - 13 May 2018 from 08:00 – 19:30. The ticket office is open from 08:00 – 18:00. Click here to buy your tickets online.
