RHP explanatory video about potting

RHP has developed the potting reference. The results of this provide insight into the density of the substrate by potting. This helps in choosing a substrate that matches the way potting is done and the cultivation method. View it in the new RHP explanatory video below.

The potting reference gives an average value for how dense a substrate in practice is put in a pot or container. This value can be compared with the actual potting of the substrate in practice. Combining the potting reference with the weighing of the pots during filling provides insight and can prevent problems. As soon as a pot is filled with substrate, the density of the soil is fixed. Filling a pot too tightly can lead to root problems and fertilization that deviates from what was expected with possible cultivation damage as a result.

Specific substrate recipe
For substrate manufacturers, the potting reference is a handy tool to determine the recipe for a specific crop. Sometimes growers want potting to be more dense. The potting reference can then be useful for adapting the substrate in such a way that it meets the requirements for physical and nutritional properties. The potting reference can be determined directly after the production of a substrate. Volume and density are measured in a combined test. A pressure plate simulates the average potting density in practice.
