Greenhouse project in Bolu is filled with blossoming lilies and carnations

The greenhouses built by the municipality of Bolu, a city located in the north western part of Turkey, has been filled with blossoming lilies and spray carnations.

These greenhouses were built to set an example for regional growers by Bolu Park and Gardens department in cooperation of the Abant Izzet Baysal University Faculty of Agricultural and Natural Sciences. The lilies and spray carnations were planted in cut flower greenhouses in last September and started blooming recently despite still being winter time.

Director of Bolu Park and Gardens department Aylin Aydin: “This particular greenhouse is a cut flower greenhouse of 6,500 square feet and heated through the use of geothermal water. We are trying to set an example for many growers in the region through this greenhouse. Here we grow rose, gypsophila, limonium, gerbera, ranunculus, chrysanthemum, carnation and lily. We monitor the development of these products one by one. We believe that we are successfully growing these products at a very good quality in here. Thus other growers will see what is possible and follow our example. Furthermore we would also like to increase the production of bulb plants in Bolu as the soil and climate of the city is very suitable for bulb plant production. We have also started this with lilium and would like to follow it with tulips.
