NL: B&G de Mooij launches online service
"The flower sector is changing and we are adapting to it," according to B & G de Mooij. "The internet makes the entire chain transparent and accessible, even to florists. In order to keep costs down, they prefer to order as close to the source as possible, and online, because that offers convenience and speed. Online suppliers for florists are popping up everywhere."
Next-day delivery
The de Mooij brothers realized what this meant for the sector, and decided they needed to adapt their business model. Gerco: "When a customer places an order today, they want to receive everything in their store tomorrow morning. Everyone has become used to online stores such as Bol.com and Cool Blue. If you can’t provide this service as an online Dutch flower supplier, then you are not going to make it in the long run, certainly not when it comes to shops in the Netherlands and Belgium."
Increased flexibility
B & G de Mooij will continue to remain a partner for the traditional wholesaler, but it is now also fully equipped to operate as online supplier. The company offers a wide range of products and is accessible almost 24 hours per day, offering tailored customer-specific solutions and delivering its products sorted and packaged. Gerco: "This allows online suppliers, and large and small wholesalers to focus more on customer contact and on sales and solid logistics."
