RHS London orchid show:

UK: Silver for Double H nurseries's displays with AGM Phalaenopsis

At the RHS London orchid show, Double H Nurseries picked up the silver floral award for their display. What’s special about their display was the fact that they were only showcasing their RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) phalaenopis. This award and the logo of this award is well known in the UK ornamental industry as it helps gardeners choose the best plants for their homes and garden. A variety only receives this award if it meets certain criteria. (Click here for more information on the AGM award.)

James Wong (a famous ethnobotanist, television presenter and garden designer in the UK) also visited the exhibit of Double H Nurseries. Click here to see more photos of their booth.

The show took place on April 6-7 in the RHS Lindley Hall and Lawrence Hall and both were filled with orchids. Next to Double H Nurseries, more growers were showcasing their varieties and more awards were handed out.

The bowl of Pleione ‘Tongario’ of Orchid Society of Great Britain took the award for Best Hybrid Orchid and the Best Specimen Orchid was awarded to Akerne Orchids from Belgium for its palm-like Cyrtopodium palmifrons. Helen Millner’s educational display was awarded Best Orchid Exhibit, showing how orchids have adapted to entice flies as pollinators. Click here to see the entire list of Floral Awards.

Also talks were given. Double H Nurseries' Mark Riley, for example, gave a talk on ‘How to grow and flower Phalaenopsis orchids - from modern nursery to success at home’.
