"In Kalanchoes, visible differences within just one week"

Kwekerij de Veranda, based in Poeldijk in the Netherlands, offers Kalanchoe plants in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colors. As such, it was an ideal nursery to obtain a research permit to evaluate the effect of Asperello T34 Biocontrol on Fusarium wilt.

Reduce losses
“We were looking for an effective product to reduce our crop losses due to Fusarium,” explains the grower, Nick Groenewegen. “We tried chemical products that not only inhibited plant growth but also provided insufficient protection. We also tried several other biological products in the past, but results were disappointing.”

Difference between plants
According to Groenewegen, the effects of using Asperello T34 Biocontrol were quickly visible. “Within one week of applying the product we could already see a difference between treated and non-treated plants,” he said. “We didn’t get complete protection, possibly due to the fact the cuttings weren’t completely disease-free.”

Best strategy
Together with Biobest, the grower determines the best application strategy: mixing Asperello T34 Biocontrol with potting compost, or drenched on before planting. “As soon as this product is authorized in the Netherlands I plan to integrate it into our biological control program,” he concludes.
