The theme this year is "A Soil in Balance". The soil is a complex whole that is more than the sum of its parts. It contains a lively collaboration between roots, fungi, bacteria and other organisms that ingeniously support biodiversity and help crops achieve the best possible yield. Understanding soil is an essential part of "Agriculture 4.0" when growing crops with minimal use of chemicals.
NLG Holland
NLG Holland stands for Natural Living and Growth Holland. The cooperative consists of a number of sustainable and organic flower bulb growers that jointly manage 1,000 hectares of land. The growers of NLG Holland try to grow top quality bulbs through soil improvement and balance in the soil, while using less chemicals and artificial fertilizers.
Over the past year important progress has been made. For example, NLG Mix, a green manure mix with 21 different varieties that boosts the biodiversity. Or the use of veggiewash, which makes it possible to decontaminate bulbs using only a fraction of the amount of chemicals. More knowledge is also being gained about the optimal fertilization balance by growing according to the Albrecht method.
