K.G. van Vliet has recently moved to a brand new building on theRietwijkeroordweg in Aalsmeer. It was high time as the company was getting toobig for the previous location. With a warehouse of 23,000 m2 (and 39,000 m2 total area surface)the company is future proof once more. Everybody has already moved and the highseason is in full swing. There is no lack of work. Director Bob IJpelaar: “Inthe low season the customer wants to keep the costs down, and in the high seasonhe wants to work as efficiently as possible, which is now. At those busymoments we can deal with the complex logistics operations.”

Bob: “VanVliet does a lot of product development, and we have, for example, developed anumber of new concepts for plates. We have plates that can carry up to 300 kiloand have long longevity. They are also easy to clean because they are made ofplastic.”

Bob: “We have grown from a traditional tradingorganization to a service oriented organization. From trading in carts totaking care away in the field of ornamental flower logistics. We can take overthe cart administration and through our online applications and app, customerscan access their transactions and balance. The app is online since last week.Customers can see all transactions, their balance, etc, and have a completeoverview. Instead of a disorganized administration which is often not up todate, the customer now has a real-time, perfectly organized overview."

Accordingto Bob, Van Vliet sets an example which should be followed more often. “Maybeit is not in their nature, but I think growers, exporters, traders, shouldfocus more on their core business and less on other affairs. You cannot doeverything by yourself and cooperation is the key, so make maximum use of yourown expertise and that of someone else.”
