CAST 2018: What you've missed at Suncrest and Pacific Plug & Liner

For 6 days, California was the center of the US floriculture sector last month. FloralDaily visited all locations and made a Photo Report of the event. In the weeks that followed, we presented the highlights of the participating companies in a series of articles. Today, we will present the last edition. In this article we present the highlights of Hishtil, Cohen, Jaldety and Nir Nursery at Suncrest Nursery, a new location in Watsonville and Los Alamos and Bailey Nurseries, Quality Cuttings, Sunset Western Garden Collection, Southern Living Plants and Pacific Plug and Liner at the Pacific Plug and Liner location in Watsonville as well.

In this last edition, we will also provide the links to the previous articles with the highlights of all other CAST participants.

Hishtil


Haim Rosenblum of Hishtil presenting Gaura Summer Star Baby, a natural dwarfish Gaura with large and crowded dark pink flowers, applicable for containers planting or out in the open. Does not require any PGR's..


On the left: Thymus cirtiodorus Cascata Lemonade. This Thymus variety tastes and smells like lemonade and one can even make lemonade from it. Cascate is the new tradename of Hishtils varieties of herbs with a hanging habit. On the right: Calibrachoa FuntaStick. Click here for the enlarged picture. This high-stem calibrachoa is created by grafting herbaceous ornamental, Calibrachoa having a short height and bushy growth habit on a rootstock containing high-single stem. It is available in four colors (Mandarin, Red-Cherry, Yellow Chocolate Ring, and Real Red).

Nir Nursery


Asaf Nir of Nir Nursery holding their new variety Rey. Rey is a new intergeneric cross between chamelaucium and verticordia has recently been put on the market. It is different to a wax flower; "the branch structures, leaves and flowers are completely different from what many probably know for a wax flower". The flower is big with a fuchsia pink color and the flowers last for about 2 to 3 months.

Jaldety


Also at Jaldety, there were a lot of varieties on display. One of their new varieties that attracted a lot of attention is the Senecio Silver Velvet. This variety does very well in a humid and warm climate.


On the left: Salvia Kisses and Wishes On the right: Crassula Deceptor Stone Age Silver. It is a succulent and evergreen low growing dense textured plant, with silver-gray foliage and interesting shape, easy to grow, low maintenance, deer resistant, drought and salt tolerant. Cohen


Asaf Cohen of Cohen presenting the new Nemosia Honey line. They have this line for a couple of years, but replaced it with 13 new varieties of breeder Breier. This series is more compact, has many (bi-)colors and have clean foliage, often a problem with Nemosia.


On the left: New line of Argyranthemum Daisini. The new line comes from Plantinova and consists of five varieties of which three (Coral, Yellow, White) were presented at the CAST. The Argyranthemum in the line have more small and many flowers, are more compact and uniform. On the right: Fuchsia Hardy Victory Chilli Red. This variety is bred by New World Plants. It is a hardy type that takes some frosts, compact, flowers do not have a center, it is standing and flowers early. Click here for the enlarged picture.


Any LeBard and Natalia Hamill of Bailey Nurseries presenting their new hydrangea Summer Crush. It is the newest and fifth introduction in the Endless Summer collection. This hydrangea has raspberry red mopheads and is more compact (w:18xh:36).


On the left: Vintage Jade. According to LeBard it is a topseller in the Disyum category. It is a low spreading shrub with dark green evergreen foliage and it blooms in late winter with small, reddish-maroon flowers. It is available in five varieties with different leaf shape and color and is suitable for growers in the South; zone 7-9. On the right: Amber Jubilee. According to LeBard, it is another topseller for many years and is a great plant for the Northern part of the country. It has a rounded and dense habit, has an array of colors in tones of orange, yellow and gold. It is suitable for zone 2-7. Click here for the enlarged picture.


Jacqueline Azbill and Carolyn Forro of Quality Cuttings Team, a new company (employee owned) out of HMA Plants. Azbill is holding Gaura Lillipop Supreme and Forro, Vinva Minor Evelyn. These are two new varieties in their perennial line.


Quality cuttings is developing a succulent series that will include 51 new varieties.


Sunset Western Garden Collection and Southern Living Plants


Janet Sluis of Plant Development Services, presenting Meerlo lavender at Sunset WesternGarden Collection. A variety that was introduced last year and from this year onward, it will be available to every grower.


Ever Amethyst is a semi-dwarf agapanthus variety. It blooms very early and reblooms with multiple spikes of bright blue flowers. Fast growing, Ever Amethyst is tough and drought tolerant. On top of that, it that can be used to produce cut flowers as well. It is re-blooming and suitable for zone 8.


Jen Miner of Pacific Plug & Liner presenting the lavendula Ghostly Princess. This silver foliaged plant was introduced last year and currently, they have enough plants available.


On the left: Baby Bells Pewter Perfect. It is a heuchera with smaller leaves and it works well in mixes and pots. On the right: Ribbon Falls. This carex is a sister variety of Feather Falls and has darker foliage. Click here for the enlarged picture.
