Chinese delegation visits UK garden centres

Eighteen leaders in the Chinese horticultural sector recently visited UK garden centres on a study tour. Facilitated by the China Horticultural Society and led by UK horticultural business consultant Neville Stein, the tour involved visiting 13 horticultural sites of excellence in the South East including Hever Castle, Coolings Nurseries, Blue Diamond, Squires and the RHS. Delegates also had the opportunity to visit the Chelsea Flower Show.

Represented in the party were delegates from across the supply chain in China and included garden retailers, whole nursery operators and online retailers. Larry Lee, President of the newly formed China Horticultural Society, the Chinese equivalent to the HTA said; “I am very familiar with the horticultural scene in the UK and felt that my members would benefit from visiting world class retailers, growers and gardens in England.” Commenting on his choice of consultant to lead the trip, Larry said, “I chose Neville to lead the trip not only because I have worked with him in China but because he has a superb understanding of the UK market and excellent connections. Neville certainly made the trip go really well and all the delegates left the UK for home feeling very energised and motivated about developing their enterprises back home.”

Neville, who has provided consultancy in China is fully aware that China presents enormous opportunities particularly for garden retailers wanting to source product. Commenting on the success of the trip Neville said; “Not only did delegates learn a huge amount from visiting the various businesses but this trip also enabled delegates to develop relationships with key businesses in the UK and so I am hoping that business relationships are developed for mutual benefit.”
