US (IA): ScottsMiracle-Gro breaks ground on $3.6 million expansion

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company broke ground on a $3.6 million expansion at its Ft. Madison, Iowa Liquids Manufacturing Facility.

To be completed by November 2018, the expansion will add over 40 full-time positions and include a new addition that will cover a total of 4,400 sq. ft., house an additional packaging line and upgrade existing equipment.

"Today, we produce 70 percent of the liquid products for ScottsMiracle-Gro in Ft. Madison and next year, with expanded production capacity, we will produce over 95 percent of the company’s Miracle-Gro, Ortho and Roundup consumer products", said Leslie Malinski, Director of Liquid Operations.

Fort Madison will be the main producer in the nation for liquid lawn and garden products following the company’s announced plans to close its liquids manufacturing plant in Pearl, Mississippi earlier this year. Scotts Miracle-Gro has owned and operated the facility at Ft. Madison since 1999.
