Syngenta Flowers scoops top prizes at European shows

Syngenta Flowers is celebrating winning four awards at two of Europe’s top horticultural trade shows, Salon du Végétal in France and the Horticultural Trade Association (HTA) National Plant Show in the UK.

Syngenta Flowers won a Gold and Silver award at one of France’s biggest shows, Salon du Végétal, held in Nantes from June 19-21.

Begonia hybrida Tophat White scooped first prize in the Innovert d’Or category. Chosen by a panel of industry experts against stiff competition from 60 other varieties, Tophat White won for its very large white flowers combined with an eye-catching large pompom of yellow stamens in the centre. It not only flowers early, offering sales opportunities to growers early in the season but also covers pots quickly with excellent branching. With its long shelf life, it also offers extended sales opportunities.

The Innovert d’Argent silver medal was awarded to fresh introduction Impatiens walleriana Imara. This new generation Impatiens walleriana, Imara marks a return to gardens for this much-loved plant. Stronger and more resistant to downy mildew than any other busy lizzie it provides all summer-long flowering in six colours.

Syngenta Flowers also won two awards at the HTA National Plant Show in the UK on June 18-19, which attracted over 2,500 trade visitors and horticultural experts.
The Sunfinity Sunflower won a Gold Award in the Annuals category of the HTA New Plant Awards 2018. This next-generation sunflower is highly floriferous, producing flowers all season long. Sunfinity also produces many blooms at once with its free-branching habit. And in the same category, new introduction for 2019 Impatiens walleriana Imara scooped a Silver Medal.

Commenting on the wins at Salon du Végétal, Christine Besson, Customer Marketing South Europe, Syngenta Flowers, said: “Winning such high recognition at Salon du Végétal makes us very proud. It offers further assurance to growers that we are offering outstanding genetics and constantly innovating to improve our services even further.”

Robbin van den Berg, Campaign Manager North Europe, Syngenta Flowers, said of the medals achieved at the HTA National Plant Show, “We are so pleased and proud of the breeding that has gone into producing the stunning new Imara.
