Construction to start in spring 2019

NL: Naktuinbouw to construct new lab facilities

In 2020 Naktuinbouw will be working in a completely new laboratory that will house all laboratory equipment for various types of research. This is due to the rising demand for plant disease tests, the use of DNA technology, more efficient design of the accommodation and to be able to continue to meet the stricter requirements for laboratories.

On July 6, the board of Naktuinbouw (the Netherlands Inspection Service for Horticulture) drew up the plans to build a new laboratory behind the main building at Sotaweg 22 in Roelofarendsveen. After this first important step, the procedure for European tendering was started. The actual construction will begin in spring 2019.

Laboratory and office

In addition to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, the new building will also have office space. The total surface area of both floors will be 6,000 m2, of which 3,500 m2 is furnished as laboratory space. Because all kinds of different plant pathogens are used for research - including quarantine diseases - the laboratory rooms are classified according to different safety classifications.

Purchase of municipal land
The municipality of Kaag & Braassem decided to sell off the 'event area' that is located diagonally behind the main building of Naktuinbouw. The municipality will also let a parcel of about 1.5 hectares on the Sotaweg to Naktuinbouw.

Naktuinbouw is planning to use the plot on Sotaweg 60A to store soil. The excavated soil behind the main building is valuable for Naktuinbouw and is therefore temporarily stored at this location. Naktuinbouw will rent the plot for the next three years, with the possibility of a three-year extension.

The current 'event area' will serve as storage location during construction in 2019 and will be used for the supply of building materials. After construction, it will have a logistical function for the supply and removal of materials to Naktuinbouw and can serve as a parking facility as well.
