In addition to growing plants Bunnik provides additional value-added in the delivery. The plants are 'off-the-shelf packaged for the consumer and usually already priced and labeled for the Shop Channel. Director Hans Bunnik emphasizes that sustainability is in the genes, "Fifteen years ago we switched to natural gas, already utilizing waste heat from the power station in Capelle aan de IJssel. The next step was the use of CO2 from the Shell refinery. This is delivered through the OCAP pipeline. Our growing plants use the 'C' as a building material and give '02' (oxygen) back to the air. Therefore we are the lungs of Bleiswijk."

7650 collectors = 1.8 MW
By placing solar collectors they took the third major step in sustainability. Greenhouses with plants are unsuitable to place panels on, but there appeared to be two hectares of free roof area above the workspaces. This summer the installation SolSolutions with a total of 7650 solar panels was placed, divided into three clusters. Together, these modules are good for a generation capacity of 1.8 megawatts, which makes Bunnik Plants the largest generator of solar energy in South Holland. Two clusters deliver electricity solely for his own use, but the third also supplies power to the regular power grid.
Bunnik: "This solution looks economically and environmentally very good. An interesting price, in combination with an attractive subsidy, makes the payback period relatively short.
