Narendra Patil:

Indian grower Soex Flora ready to supply the world with rose cuttings

"Our vision is to become one of the leading players for plants supply", says Narendra Patil, of Soex Flora, an Indian rose grower that started to propagate rose plants since last year. "On our 20th anniversary we inaugurated a hi-tech climate controlled plant propagation unit with a capacity to propagate three million plants a year."

Need for good plant material
According to Patil, the Indian Floriculture Industry is developing at steady rate, but there is still a lack of quality planting material. "We grow cut roses and we are continuously looking for ways to improve the quality of our flowers. And good planting material is essential for achieving this. As there are very limited superior quality plants available here in India, we decided to start producing the starting material ourselves", says Patil.

In order to produce their own starting material, Soex Flora established a propagation greenhouse that was inaugurated on their 20 year anniversary earlier this year. According to Patil, this propagation unit has the capacity to propagate three million plants per year. "It enables us to produce better quality plants and on time deliveries", he says.

The Top Graft plants, are grown on sterilized cocopeat and the Natal Briar rootstocks. "We use this rootstock to avoid major problems of Crown Gall. The plants give a pleasing high production and good stem-length", says Patil.

Expanding market
Besides using the starting plants for their own production, Soex Flora is also supplying other growers in India and look forward for supplying countries abroad too. "We are very satisfied with this new project and we receive positive feedback from our clients", says Patil. His company sees a potential market for their plants abroad and therefore wants to expand its market in the coming years. "Our vision is to become one of the leading players for starting material", he concludes.
