Maarel Orchids in Maasdijk , the Netherlands, recently started to use a new camera sorting system 'Phalaenopsis 3.0' from Aris. Growers have never before been able to sort plants with this accuracy. Director Arno van der Maarel: "This advanced camera flawlessly charts all the characteristics of the plants: number of buds and branches, length of the branches, color, growth stage and even flower patterns." 

According to Van der Maarel, with Phalaenopsis 3.0 they can respond to the needs of their customers even better. "The camera records countless plant traits. Even if the flowers are striped, dotted or speckled. We store all these data in a database so we know exactly what we have in the greenhouse at plant level. With the variety and numbers that we grow this is no luxury! With this wealth of information it is possible to exactly sort the plants that the customer wants. And we can also more accurately control and plan production. We’ve had this advanced camera sorting system in use as of May, with success. The results are 100% reliable and customer responses are very positive."
