Frank de Greef, Fleurizon International:

Albuca Spiralis: A good addition to succulent range

Fleurizon International introduced the Albuca Spiralis to the US market just over a year ago, and it seems to have been a good move. "At the Cultivate, it was a real show stopper and many of our clients say they are going to triple the volume of their orders next year", says Fleurizon's Frank de Greef.

Albuca Spiralis
The Albuca Sprialis is a succulent-like variety that is originally from South Africa. The annual growing cycles is 7 to 8 months and the plant will go dormant for 3-4 months. The plant has curled foliage and flowers between June and August, for about 6 weeks. "The flower does not only looks stunning, it also seems to have a good scent", says de Greef.

Good addition to succulent range
According to de Greef, the Albuca Spiralis is a good addition to the succulent range of a grower. "It can be combined easily and it fits very well in a succulent garden", he says. Fleurizon supplies clones of the original Albuca Spiralis in 6cm to 12cm bulbs to garden centers, plant and succulent growers all over the US and Europe from January to July. "Growing the bulb to a retail ready plant takes about 10 weeks and does not differ that much from succulent cultivation."

Increasing demand
Just over a year ago, Fleurizon introduced the Albuca Spiralis to the US market. "We firstly introduced it in Europe and 3 years ago we decided to enter the US with this variety." And they are pleased with the reactions and the actual demand. "At the Cultivate in Ohio last week, it was a real show stopper. And our clients are increasing their orders. Many indicated to triple the orders for the next year", he says.
