Sneak peek at new coleus varieties from Terra Nova
The collection’s coleus varieties are well-branched, suitable replacements for impatiens, and they have hardiness zones of 10-11. PGRs are neither required, nor recommended.
The new Coleus Terra Nova ‘Mystic Light’ is a tight, upright mounding plant. Its creamy-peach leaves, accompanied by dark pink centers and green edges, make this coleus glow in the morning light. It contains a foliage height of 12” and foliage spread of 30”.
Coleus Terra Nova ‘Persia’ contains small, yellow-green and finger-like lobed leaves, with red veins in the center. This variety offers a foliage height of 14”, foliage spread of 18” and a trailing habit, allowing it to be used as an attractive ground cover.
The self-branching varieties have a fast growth rate, and a 4” pot will finish in three to four weeks. In addition to the groundcover application, ‘Persia’ and ‘Mystic Light’ are well-suited for hanging baskets, mixed containers, mass beds, and summer borders. They also serve nicely as colorful houseplants. These varieties have been bred for regions with heat and humidity such as the Deep South, and they thrive in shade to part shade. Well-drained soil with moderate organic content is required.
