NL: Fraudulent trader arrested in Aalsmeer

A man suspected of major fraud was arrested in Aalsmeer last week. The police had long been looking for the man, who – over the last couple of years – had been posing as a Romanian and Italian, among other things. He is presumed to be a member of a gang that ships flowers from Ecuador and the Netherlands to Romania and Italy.

This is reported by AgroCheck in its latest newsletter (Dutch). The man was allegedly captured and turned over to the police by a fellow trader. Several airfreight companies, 14 companies from Ecuador and six from the Netherlands have apparently been affected. More potentially injured parties have come forward after the arrest, who have filed a police report. This has contributed to the court’s decision to keep the man in custody.

The man has two passports, according to AgroCheck: one from his native Ecuador, where he was also convicted for violence and fraud, and a Bulgarian passport.

AgroCheck has also issued a warning: As said, the man is probably part of a larger whole and this gang is still active.
