IRISS

New measurement tool creates wealth of information

The newest machine vision technologies are very accurate. For example, with IRISS, a machine developed by 4More Technology, many aspects of roses are scanned and measured with millimeter accuracy. This results in new measurement data and potential new insights into cultivation.

On LinkedIn Kees Bukman, who works at the company, informs that the measurement data of every rose are individually stored in a database. These measurements are then linked to the supplemental data like origin, harvest employee, transport time, storage temperature, processing time etc. All this is stored as BigData and results in a wealth of data holding golden information. By combining the accurate measurement data with the cultivation information relations can be traced at micro level.

That this information can be useful for (Dutch) rose growers seems obvious, according to Kees, but only time will tell what the actual impact will be.
