Growing cut flowers on a cultivation floor

At Delphy, 1100 m2 of lisianthus are being trialed. What's special about this trial is the fact that these flowers are being grown on an ErfGoedFloor - growing a soil-bound crop is still in its infancy. It might offer opportunities for lisianthus growers, but also freesia or chrysanthemum growers. This way of growing offers advantages in terms of emissions and reducing diseases and plagues.

The first results are promising, explains Cock van Bommel from Erfgoed in the video below (In Dutch). "On this ErfGoedfloor, we applied 10-12 cm cocos and we started to cultivate on this floor. And cocos seems to be a great substrate, also for lisianthus. In the past, we did trials with clay pebbles, but the availability of moister that we needed was limited. This is not the case when using cocos", he says. "If you look over the crop it looks like a billiard table, it has a very uniform growth. In our opinion, cultivation floors are suitable for cultivating lisianthus, but it also offers perspectives for crops like chrysanthemums, freesias and other soil-bounded crops."
