SPID introduces new propagation trays and crates
Sandrine Quenea and Mickael Lescoet of SPID Trays
Over the last two decades, SPID focused on the development of long life injection molded, premium quality propagation trays. Their reusable multi-cell trays are suitable for automated and mechanized processes, in both sowing and transplanting stages. As hygiene plays an important role in the propagation stage, the trays are made of a polypropylene material that can be easily washed and disinfected. Polypropylene is also a durable material that will last for more than 15 years, enabling a plant grower to save costs and invest in automation.
"A closer look into the design ensures good root development without ant twizziling", explained Mickael Lescoet, export manager at SPID. "Next to this the cells guarantee a homogeneous growth and an easy removal of the plant. The cell shapes and cell characteristics play a key role to create healthy and strong young plants."
Nowadays, the French company benefits of a sufficient number of plugs trays to cover the plant nurseries needs, anywhere around the world, and tries to advise as possible on specific or polyvalent references, depending of the customer request.
Euro Box
SPID is presenting three new trays. The first one is the EURO BOX, a strong and durable new crate for the propagation of high quality plants in peat blocks, such as lettuce. The bottom pyramidal surface has been especially designed to allow an optimal absorption of irrigation water on the production surface, while still avoiding possible moisture retention.
Euro 384
The EURO 384 cavities tray was initially designed for the cultivation of processing tomatoes young plants. "It has a good ratio between the density and the eventual quality of the plant and can be used with normal peat, compressed peat or plugs."
Also new is the EURO 216 holes tray. This has been designed to get a very convenient cell volume for early cabbage young plants.
