No auctioning at Royal FloraHolland on King's Day

At the start of this year, Royal FloraHolland reported about their plan to conduct a pilot of auctioning on the King's Day holiday (27 April 2017). This created quite a stir among buyers and suppliers. Therefore they have decided to review the decision.

After reviewing the project and consulting the members of the Flowers and Plants Advisory Committees and the Buyers' Platform, FloraHolland decided not to auction on King's Day after all.

This reversal did reveal that there is a need for more and complete service provision 24/7 and that a pilot to auction on a holiday is still a good idea, but not promising under these circumstances. King's Day is situated 2.5 weeks before Mother's Day, and it is not expected to be a busy auctioning day.

The members of both the Advisory Committees and the Buyers' Platform realised that opinions are very divided about auctioning on holidays. They agreed to explore the procedure for coming to a balanced outcome that would prevent this type of discussion in the future.
