Innovative rose cultivation at Meewisse

Aad and Tom Meewisse, father and son run the rose company Meewisse. Aad started rose growing almost 37 years ago, and his son joined him once he graduated from University. Together they made a plan to establish a business that accommodates to the latest developments and techniques, guaranteeing top quality roses for years to come.

Innovation in cultivation
Besides the more efficient use of fertilizers, the energy consumption was minimised and the amount of waste was reduced massively in their quest to innovation. Working conditions are also top standard. All the changes made resulted in a state of the art growing facility which is being used to produce a rose which is equally special.

Aad and Tom grow their crop with passion, and are always improving the circumstances and selecting of the crop with the newest techniques.

Facts about Meewisse:
  • 43.000 m² growing area
  • 37 years combined experience
  • 11 million roses per year
  • 25 devoted employees
  • Biological crop protection
Since last year they use a system called IRISS, to sort out the roses when packed. Porta Nova, Kwekerij Rozenhof, Van der Burg Roses who also grow roses use this system. IRISS looks at all characteristics of the rose, keeping an incredibly high standard and sorts the roses with impressive consistency. If a rose is not up to standard it will not be used. With this system you are assured that the roses all have same size heads and stems and are decently packed. This system is used by 8 rose growers in Holland.
