Celebrating the year of the Marigold and Pepper

2018 is the year of the Marigold and the Pepper, according to Fleuroselect, the international organization for the ornamental plants industry. For PanAmerican Seed, this is a good opportunity to highlight their extended assortment of these products.

Marigold: Bring sunshine to your garden
One of the easiest garden annuals to grow, Marigolds are not just bedding plants, they are a good choice for pots and patio gardens, too. Marigolds are also used in many rituals and ceremonies in Buddhist countries, as decoration for Hindu marriages, and for culinary and healing practices. But most of all: the flowers bring sunshine to the garden.

Marigolds are annuals that grow, flower and set seed in the same season, and they are really easy to grow from seed. Seedlings quickly develop into strong sturdy plants with masses of vibrant orange, red and yellow flowers. PanAmerican Seed has a large assortment of French and African Marigolds.

Peppers on trend
Houseplants have exploded in popularity the past years. Pepper plants are often grown for their ornamental value, as the coloured peppers and attractive foliage make very good-looking plants. Peppers are ideal for patio growing and perfect for containers so you can grow them in pots on a terrace, balcony or even a windowsill.

Edible peppers
PanAmerican Seed offers a wide range of edible peppers, as part of their HandPicked Collection. This collection offers a novel high-quality group of vegetables and herbs especially for those who supply fresh market farmers and hobby gardeners.

This year they introduced Habanero Primero Red; the earliest ripening habanero on the market. These big hot peppers have just about one-third of the heat of standard habaneros, letting gardeners appreciate their rich flavor in fresh salsa and cooking. They also introduced Snackabelle Red, a thick-walled mini bell pepper with a rich, sweet flavor that’s great for fresh eating from green to red.

In the Handpicked Vegetable Brochure you can find more of their edible pepper varieties and other vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants and herbs.

With the acquisition of Ex-Plant 1.5 years ago, PanAmerican Seed has widened the assortment of Ornamental Peppers, with series like Acapulco, Salsa and Samba and lots of other specialties in different colours and shapes.
