US (WA): Scott Crownover joins Skagit Horticulture

Scott Crownover has joined Skagit Horticulture as of September 1st, 2018.

A native of the Seattle area, Scott has worked in the commercial horticulture industry for 34 years, first at Vaughan’s Seed Company, and for the past 21 years at McHutchison Horticultural Distributors, one the largest plant brokerage companies in the US, and a division of Dümmen Orange. Scott began his McHutchison career as a sales representative in the Pacific Northwest, and transferred to the New Jersey office where he finished as President of the corporation. He is well known across the industry, enjoying strong working relationships with growers, plant brokers, and suppliers.

Crownover has a reputation in his career for building qualified teams that have led to substantial growth and market share. As both a tenacious leader and creative innovator, he led the relaunch of Vaughan’s Horticulture in 2012, and the rebranding of McHutchison in 2015, creating one of the largest brokerage companies in North America. Crownover also held a key role in the negotiations and transition as the corporation was purchased by Dümmen Orange in 2017.

“Scott’s reputation in the industry for leadership, customer and vendor partnerships, and innovative thinking are what we are so enthusiastic about adding to our team,” says Mark Buchholz, President and CEO of Skagit Horticulture. “We’re excited for the fresh ideas he can bring to our company, and the leadership and support he can provide for our national sales teams in all of our divisions.”

Skagit Horticulture was established in January of 2017, from the merger of Northwest Horticulture and Skagit Gardens. Primarily known for quality young plant liners that are distributed across North America, the corporation also includes the divisions of Northwest Horticulture, offering finished plant material for mass merchants; Skagit Gardens, committed to serving the Northwest independent garden center market; Etera, an innovative company producing exclusively for the green roof industry; and a recently established specialty agriculture division.

Scott will assume the position of Chief Operating Officer, working with the leadership team to develop and drive strategies toward establishing Skagit Horticulture as one of the top nursery companies in North America.

Scott and his wife, Joni, are happy to be back in the Pacific Northwest where they can enjoy spending time with their three grown children and their spouses, along with their grandson. When not busy with family, Scott and Joni enjoy boating, gardening, golfing and hiking.
