Hort Science Live 2018, the practical event showcasing the latest scientific developments in ornamental horticulture, is to be held at Palmstead Nursery in Kent (4 October) and at Stockbridge Technology Centre in Yorkshire (17 October).
Organised by ICL and Bayer, and run in association with the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), Hort Science Live (HSL) provides opportunities for growers and agronomists to interact with leading specialists in growing media, plant nutrition and plant protection.
“Focussing very much on practical applications, we show growers how to apply the latest techniques and technologies to benefit their own production,” says Adam Ferjani, ICL marketing communications manager. “Launched in 2017, the first event was over-subscribed hence we are staging two HSL events this year.”
With growing interest in biopesticide and biostimulants, ICL’s Martin Donnelley and Dr Richard Collins will explore their roles and practical applications. Meanwhile Bayer’s Colin Mumford will put vine weevil under the spotlight, updating growers on recent regulatory changes regarding neonicotinoids. He will take delegates through registered products post-2018 and in which situations Exemptor has label approval. The difference between thiacloprid and imidacloprid will be explained, including how growers can communicate this to the plant buying public.
This year’s precision nutrition session by ICL’s Andrew Wilson will look at timing of nutrient delivery – why it is important and how to achieve it to help avoid all-important nutrient deficiencies.
To ease the transition from dependence on peat to increased uptake of responsibly sourced growing media - primarily bark, wood fibre, coir and green compost – the ADAS workstation will cover the latest findings of Project CP 138.
Hort Science Live (North) will feature Stockbridge Technology Centre workstations on indoor growing looking at technologies and perspectives and on the impact of light on crop development and pest and disease management.
