Sunday 16th September it was all about horticulture in Straelen. The Research Institute for Horticulture celebrates this year its 100th birthday. Founded as a school for vegetable growing, now the trial work is the main focus. An exhibition informs about the development in the past 100 years. To celebrate, a Green City Tour was organized. Eight companies opened their doors to show visitors the breeding and cultivation of flowers and vegetables.
Straelen is centrally located in the largest contiguous horticultural production area in Germany, the Niederrhein. Year after year, more flowers and vegetables are produced and marketed here.
"With this Green City Tour we want to present the economic pillar of our city, horticulture. We also want to bring companies and visitors closer together in a sustainable way", says business promoter Uwe Bons. "We want to show that our operations are modern and offer good job opportunities."

"We were really impressed by the amount of visitors", says Tom Canders of Beautiful Ladies."We welcomed 7,000-9,000 visitors in the nurseries." He sent us some nice pictures of the tour.
